Parshat Nitzavim (Stand)

The Torah portion is Nitzavim, Deuteronomy 29:9-30:20.

This is one of the shorter Torah portions. It tells of the forging of a covenant between G-d and the Children of Israel, and includes many well-known statements of basic Jewish principles: that the Covenent was made not just with the ones standing there but also with those who will be born in the future; that this Torah is not in the heavens or across the sea that you have to send somebody to get it, but it is right there in your heart and in your mouth; that G-d has put before us life and death and encourages us to choose life.

The haftarah is for 7th Haftarah of Consolation, Isaiah 61:10-63:9. This passage is full of themes of victory and rebuilding.
