Parshat Emor (Speak)

The Torah portion is Emor, Leviticus 21:1-24:23. In synagogues using the Triennial system, 5782 is year 3 and the Torah reading is Leviticus 23:23-24:23.

This parshah lays out special rules for the priests, descendants of Aaron. Both the priests and the things they are offering must be physically perfect, and the offerings they are allowed to eat must be eaten only by the priests and their families. It also lays out the basics of many of the holidays and their offerings. It lays out the death penalty for blasphemy and murder, and all other penalties will be proportional to the crime, with the same rules for the native and the soujourner.

The haftarah is Ezekiel 44:15-44:31. Like the Torah portion, this Haftarah speaks of the priests and Levites, their activities and their garments, and other rules for them.
